Wine information
The Pinot Noir comes from the Maustal vineyard, a four-hectare vineyard south of Sulzfeld am Main with a south and southeast exposure. The steep slope is characterised by the barren and skeleton-rich Upper Muschelkalk. The vines on this site are the oldest vines we have planted ourselves. As always at Weingut Zehnthof Luckert, the grapes are harvested by hand, followed by maceration in open fermenters, spontaneous fermentation, no chaptalisation, no cool pre-fermentation, around two weeks on the skins, and ageing for one and a half years in Burgundy barrels.
Color
deep ruby red
Nose
The Pinot Noir Maustal opens with a deep, intense, inviting nose that is much less reductive than last year. A rich cherry fruit with mainly ripe black cherries shows here. There is also some elderberry, blackberry, warm moss and a fine toasted wood with light cinnamon and nut crumble.
Palate
The 2019 Pinot Noir Maustal opens on the palate with the same sensual, juicy and ripe fruit, but accompanied there by a more pronounced wood and ferment flavour, reminiscent of black tea, black cardamom and dark tobacco. There are also notes of melting dark chocolate that encompass the ripe, almost black fruit. The wood and crumbly tannin provide the framework for this concentrated yet transparent Pinot Noir, which is infused with ripe acidity. It is a wine that packs the richness beautifully.
