The four-hectare steep slope Maustal south of Sulzfeld has a south-southeast orientation and consists of sparse and skeleton-rich shell limestone. The old Silvaner vines produce well-balanced wines that have always been fermented dry in the Luckert house in double oak from Franconian oak without any tangible residual sugar or cheeky fruit. The wines require time and are true long-distance runners.
Color
Bright yellow with luminous reflections, radiant and clear.
Nose
With its distinctive nose, the 2020 Maustal Silvaner Großes Gewächs from Zehnthof-Luckert tells of its careful ageing in large wooden barrels. On the nose, it shines not with primary fruit but with spicy notes of mace, white pepper and fresh sage. Only in the background does some reduced peach skin show up and add a little yellow fruit in the extract.
Mouth
On the nose, the Silvaner shows a firm bite and shady aromatics Cooling with little fruit, balanced tannin and fine phenolics, it outlines the Maustal on the palate as a primarily structural experience. It radiates calm, level-headedness and power, without wasting itself in testosterone-driven showiness. Accelerated by its ripe acidic nerve, it reveals itself as a strikingly spicy type with broad shoulders, a balanced feel and a cool finish. Luckert's wines benefit enormously from a few years of bottle maturity.
