Zehnthof Luckert Maustal Silvaner Großes Gewächs 2015, Franconia
Color
platinum yellow
Nose
The 2015 Silvaner from the old Maustal comes from vines that are over 50 years old. Matured in large wooden barrels made of Franconian oak, the Große Gewächs is already slightly creamy in the aroma, but otherwise restrained spicy. The ripe yellow fruits, which are always typical for Silvaner and which remind of old pear varieties, of quinces and yellow plums, combine with spice, smoke and herbs.
Palate
On the palate, the Silvaner turns up only slowly. The wine from old vines needs air and a big glass. Then it shows its personality with increasing finesse and elegance. It is a dark, deep Silvaner with a complex structure, earthy yet lightly floating in yellow fruit. Nougat and tobacco, licorice and pepper reveal themselves. The wine becomes more gripping and tauter with time, where at the beginning it seems almost a little full-bodied. Already now the wine is great fun, no question, but what it has above all is an enormous potential for the next years.
