Info about the wine
The Materia Prima of Aristotelian philosophy and medieval alchemy was the inspiration for this extraordinary cuvée of Traminer and Veltliner. The "primordial substance", which is characterised by the interplay with the four elements and is more than the sum of its individual parts, was entirely under the sign of AIR in 2018. The resulting excellent grape material was hand-selected and fermented spontaneously on the mash in concrete eggs as pure, unformed matter. An elemental wine in its original state, at rest and yet in motion.
Info about the expansion
After the hand harvest, spontaneous fermentation took place for 12 months at 25 % in concrete eggs and at 75 % in large used wooden barrels .
Color
Intense golden yellow with copper reflections; slightly cloudy, as not filtered.
Nose
The scent that flows towards you in the 2020 Materia Prima is intense and clear as a bell, melon, elderflower, ripe pear and blossom honey in the purest concentration. Above this floats the scent of roses and lychee as well as the essence of Bach flowers in combination with lots of yeast and toasted notes reminiscent of freshly baked white bread. A true firework, unexpectedly purist and pure, enclosed in a black matted bottle that seems to hide secrets within.
Palate
On the palate, it offers a finesse-rich structure, plenty of minerality and the finest spice, which it pairs with the juicy and fragrant fruit of the nose. It does not demand, it only gives, and does so generously and exuberantly. A truly fresh and at the same time intense firework of grapes, pure, puristic and inspiring. The never-ending reverberation points to its fantastic ageing potential and to the fact that with a longer opening and a lot of oxygen contact, it will be at its absolute best. What a drinking experience!
Decant or leave open in the refrigerator for more than 2 days.
