Information
A wine from the Carignan grape variety, which comes from an original parcel of the domaine located in the forest, after which it is also named. It is located in Occitania in the valley of the Agly on a marl terrace. Whole grape fermentation took place, ageing in cement, neutral wood and clay. No addition of additives.
Color
transparent bright cherry red with light violet reflections
Nose
The Matassa Rouge is a pure Carignan from old vines. It smells almost as if winemaker Tom Lubbe had freshly pitted a lot of cherries of different varieties and dried the stones in the sun. The wine is juicy and fresh, which, with air, also takes in a hint of sloes and a dry herb infusion, as well as some dry wood, garrigue, and the parched soil of a summer in Roussillon. The Matassa Rouge acts like a summer rain - lively and refreshing.
Palate
Drink the Matassa - and this is about drinking, not about sipping -, then exactly what Tom Lubbe's claim is developing here, namely to create a complex wine, where the tonic, the lively, the freshness and juiciness stands above everything else. Transparency and clarity define this red wine, which could also be a white wine in terms of acidity structure and tannin. The Carignan offers dance theatre like Pina Bausch. Seemingly weightless and light, the Matassabut this results solely from long work and a lot of effort. So the Carignan glides over the palate with red berry fruit, notes of fleshy cherries and blood oranges. There are also hop notes, some black olive tapenade, smoke and a bit of hemp. With air and time, this continues to fan out, combining complexity with irrepressible freshness.
