Info about the wine

Mazzon, called "Mason" by Manincor to avoid confusion with the larger site above Neumarkt. Four hectares are planted with Pinot Nero in this unique site, a south-facing plateau at 400-450 m above sea level, sunny and constantly exposed to the wind - ideal conditions for the tightly berried Pinot grapes. The soil is sandy loam and interspersed with various stones Dolomite, porphyry, gneiss and granite can be found here, from small grains to fist-sized stones.

Info about the expansion

Each batch from the different parcels was pressed separately. The maceration took place in wooden vats, spontaneously with the grape's own yeasts. Maceration lasted two weeks, with the marc cake being dipped once a day. The 16-month wooden barrel ageing took place in barriques, with only 20 % of new wood, and the wine remained on the fine lees for the entire time. Only then were the individual parcels blended, selecting the best barrels from the highest parcel with the oldest vines for Mason di Mason.

Color

Medium, slightly muted cherry red with lightening towards the rim.

Nose

The 2020 Mason di Mason presents itself with herbaceous aromas on the nose. Lovage, garden herbs like chervil and mint determine the attack, accompanied by a fine cinnamon and pepper note and a hint of wood smoke. With oxygen, the fine fruity notes of sour cherries and small dark berries join in. An animating minerality hovers over everything.

Palate

On the palate, the 2020 Mason di Mason is still fresh and youthful, its fine acidity challenges the taster, its tannin already seems fine-grained and rounded. A wine that reveals youthfulness and complexity with delicately salty notes in the finish, virtually predestined for vegetarian creations as well as fish dishes.
