Info about the wine
Mazzon, called "Mason" by Manincor to avoid confusion with the larger site above Neumarkt. Four hectares are planted with Pinot Nero in this unique site, a south-facing plateau at 400-450 m above sea level, sunny and constantly exposed to the wind - ideal conditions for the tightly berried Pinot grapes. The soil is sandy loam and interspersed with various stones Dolomite, porphyry, gneiss and granite can be found here, from small grains to fist-sized stones.
Info about the expansion
Each batch from the different parcels was pressed separately. The maceration took place in wooden vats, spontaneously with the grape's own yeasts. Maceration lasted two weeks, with the marc cake being dipped once a day. The 16-month wooden barrel ageing took place in barriques, with only 20 % of new wood, and the wine remained on the fine lees for the entire time. Only then were the individual parcels blended, selecting the best barrels from the highest parcel with the oldest vines for Mason di Mason.
Color
Medium, slightly muted cherry red with clear brightening towards the rim.
Nose
The 2019 Mason di Mason presents itself with a lot of finesse. Bright fruit notes of sour cherry, red currant, young plum and raspberry jam beguile the nose. A super fine cedar note, a hint of cinnamon and latte blend in perfectly. Its maturity suits it perfectly, but at the same time it seems incredibly playful and youthful.
Palate
It also appears stimulating on the palate, perfectly unfinished even in 2019 at a still youthful stage. A red wine that harmonises perfectly with vegetables and fish dishes. Simply wonderful!
