Slightly transparent, bright ruby red - Manincor's Grand Cru presents itself incredibly fragrant and fine in 2017 with notes of dried rose petals, cherry blossom as well as ripe wild strawberries and raspberries, black cherry jam and a wonderful spiciness of finest wood, smoke, sweet Indian spices and pipe tobacco.

Information

The Mason di Mason is something like the parcel wine from the best, highest situated parcel with the oldest vines within the Mazzon vineyard, which, however, is called Mason at Manincor, so as not to be confused with the large Mazzon vineyard in Neumarkt. This site, where the Mason is created, is only four hectares in size and ranges from 400 to 450 meters in elevation. It is characterized by sandy loam in the topsoil and porphyry, gneiss, granite and dolomite in the subsoil. Harvested in mid-September 2017, there were only small quantities because South Tyrol was hit by late frosts in spring. Each batch was fermented separately spontaneously and carried out over three weeks in wooden vats. The batches were aged for 12 months in barriques containing 50 % of new wood. The best barriques were taken for this wine and bottled, the others were given to the Mason slammed.

Palate

On the palate the Mason di Mason absolutely inspiring in its balance and complexity. This may be a small vintage in terms of quantity, but it is excellent in terms of quality. So elegant is this wine, so noble the tannin structure, so fluidly fine the texture, so precise the acidity, so juicy and round the red and dark berry fruit, so mystical the combination of wood, smoke, licorice and spices, and that into the long finish carried by fine minerality. This is first league and should look for its equals in South Tyrol.
