Wine information

The wine comes from 0.15 hectares in the Le Chapitre vineyard in the immediate vicinity of Clos du Roy in Chenôve to the west and Montre-Cul to the east. The site has been known since the Middle Ages, but has only recently been included in the Marsannay appellation. The vineyard is in organic farming on a subsoil of red stony clay and sandy soil on Comblanchien limestone. Also found here are grèzes litées, sandy and gravelly rubble. After destemming, cool pre-fermentation and spontaneous fermentation, the wine is aged slowly on the fine lees for 18 months in 228-litre barriques with a new wood content of 20 to 30 %.

Nose

The Marsannay Le Chapitre comes from the stoniest and perhaps also coolest location of the Marsannay-Wines from Charlopin-Tissier. It smells cool and herbaceous of dark tobacco mint and maybe even some menthol in combination with a subtle wild berry fruit.

Palate

On the palate, the wine also displays more tannin than Les Longeroies, Clos du Roy and La Montagne. In addition, one gets the feeling that raisins have been fermented, although this is not the case. On the palate, too, the wine is cool, firm with a fine phenolic and tobacco character. In addition, there are crisp dark berries and, for all that, an impressive amount of juice and a light, charming extract sweetness as well as an elegantly applied discreet wood.

Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt

  • Roasted Brussels sprouts and red cabbage with celery puree
  • Shoulder of lamb on the bone with thyme and jacket potatoes
  • Crispy rabbit with spring onions, garlic and thyme
