Wine information
The wine comes from 80-year-old vines with 10,000 density planting in Climat Clos du Roy in Chenôve in the Marsannay appellation. The vineyard faces east and is in organic farming on a subsoil of red stony clay and sandy soil on Comblanchien limestone. After destemming and spontaneous fermentation, the wine is aged slowly on the fine lees for 16 months in cigar-shaped barrels of 400 litres with a new wood content of 20 to 30 %.
Color
light golden yellow
Nose
The Marsannay Blanc from the unofficial cru site Clos du Roy smells discreetly of very lightly roasted nuts and almonds, which combine with citrus notes and some stone fruit. The Chardonnay fruit as well as the use of wood appear absolutely classic and timeless. They are far removed from a modern, overly reductive style of vinification.
Palate
On the palate the Clos du Roy Fullness and juiciness with a comparatively soft, but lively and definitely formative acidity. With air - the wine should get plenty of air - more and more pressure builds up. Tannins become noticeable, also some extract sweetness and a slightly piquant citrus bitterness of zest. The wine has a lot of power, is mouth-filling, lining and long with a discreet saltiness in the finish.
