Bright amber with a delicate red tinge

The nose is insanely deep and complex. Smoky accents remind of smoked bacon and Black Forest ham. A little rubber abrasion and old car tyres bring the onset of maturity. Dried fruit and nuts appear in enormous abundance. Plums, apricots and peaches. Dates, sultanas and figs join in. Roasted almonds spread out alongside pecans and Brazil nuts. Salted caramel and popcorn set very exciting accents. Very delicate hints of fresh apricots and mirabelles can be detected. Cinnamon and a little white pepper buzz around in the glass. Fruit bread and sourdough bread crust provide depth and honesty in the wine.

On the palate, the 1988 Marsala Superiore Oro Riserva is incredibly well-balanced. It radiates absolute calmness, is in a sensationally good stage and is also still characterised by a piquant acidity. The fruit is only a marginal feature. It lives from a slender, straight character, which is underlaid with a delicate melting. The Marsala is straight and elegant. Full of finesse and with plenty of room for the fine and versatile aromas. It seems almost salty on the palate. Fruit, sweetness, acidity and bitterness are in wonderful harmony. This is complemented by the perfect entry of the fifth taste sense, umami. Fabulous! In the aftertaste, the diverse aromas of the nose reappear.
