The wine is initially extremely compact and restrained and demands, beyond all doubt, patience, air and a large glass. Already captivating in this youthful phase, but definitely a wine that will only grow to its true greatness over time.

Tasting note from from 30.12.2020, Copyright Peter Müller

The brothers Jean-Philippe, Jean-Guillaume & Marc-Antoine Bret have started to recultivate and revive the original family vineyard La Soufrandière just in time for the beginning of the 21st century. This now includes about 6 hectares of Demeter-certified vineyards between Pouilly-Vinzelles and Mâcon-Vinzelles, and 5 more hectares with satellite plots in Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and the Beaujolais.

Color

The wine shows itself in bright shining golden yellow clearly and brilliantly in the glass.

Nose

Concentrated power announces itself in a seemingly inconspicuous garment.

The wine is initially extremely compact and reserved and demands, beyond any doubt, patience, air and a large glass. Hesitantly, fine aromas of peach skin and fresh honeydew melon, as well as physalis can be caught. Their spectrum is broadened by spicy notes of fennel greens and fresh ginger, but also nutmeg and a gossamer breeze of cinnamon. All in all, the nose of this Chardonnay already makes it inevitably clear that it is far from being in a hurry to reach its personal peak.

Palate

On the palate, the 2019 Mâcon-Vinzelles "Le Clos de Grand-Père" of the Bret Brothers convinces with its forcefulness. Dense structure benevolently lays the ground for a meticulously precise play of aromas. The latter resembles the paradoxical beauty of the dainty solo violinist who passionately starts to play "Sex is on fire" by the Kings of Leon. Substantial spice meets tense acidity and a bone-dry, yet fervent finish.

Intriguing even at this youthful stage, but definitely a wine that will only grow to its true greatness over time.

Grandfather's proud of you, lads!
