Info

Behind Bret Brothers is the La Soufrandière winery of the Bret family. Under the name Bret Brothers, they market wines that are produced from purchased grapes. Harvesting and processing as well as partly also the vineyard work is done by the family and their team.
As the name suggests, this is a blend of various vineyards from the region around Mâcon. The age of the vines varies greatly between 25 and 70 years. Harvesting is done by hand at 100%, followed by whole cluster pressing and fermentation and ageing in tank at 90% and 10% in 228l French oak barrels for eleven months. In detail, the blend is made from barrels from the Viré-Clessé La Verchère, Saint-Véran En Combe, Pouilly-Fuissé En Carementrant and other sites. These barrels did not make it into the Grande Cuvée in the tasting and are thus assigned to a level below. The potential of the sites and vines is very good and can definitely gain the step up in the following vintages.

Color

Sparkling golden yellow, bright reflections

Nose

The nose seems cool and lets one hope for an unadorned, straightforward wine. Yellow apple, a little ripe quince and dried apricots make the start. Tarte Tatin also comes to mind. Some toasted almonds and dried herbs, such as marjoram and cress, and lemon zest complement the fruit beautifully. The Chardonnay grape variety is presented here like a picture book.

Palate

On the palate it presents itself wonderfully crisp and precise. The discreet fruit continues to appear gently and the cool herbal aroma begins to dominate. The finish is juicy and slender at the same time. In the middle reverberation still a little lemon sounds. Overall appealing, though not overly complex. It doesn't need to be. Chardonnay, Burgundy, uncomplicated.
