rich purple - The 2019 L'Odyssée unfolds a beguilingly pleasant and inviting aroma of black elderberries, sloes and a little cassis, blackberries and damsons combined with undergrowth and forest floor just after a summer rain. The wine was regularly recirculated, the marc cap undercut, and the wine was aged for 15 months in used barriques and bottled unfined and unfiltered with a total of 18 mg of sulphur.

Wine information

The name L'Odyssée represents the journey Florian and Paola have experienced so far on their small vineyard and medicinal plant estate with all the many different inspirations and revelations. The wine of this name is a 100 %iger Syrah from a vineyard that features Syrah and Vermentino, with vines that are consistently 70 years old. The vineyard sits at around 130 metres and is characterised by limestone rubble and a loose and permeable soil. The wine comes from a single barrique that presented itself quite differently from the rest of the Syrah. This was the reason for vinifying the wine separately. After hand harvesting and largely destemming, the wine was fermented spontaneously. The maceration lasted about two weeks. The wine was regularly circulated, the marc cap was pushed under, and the wine was aged for 15 months in used barriques and bottled unfined as well as unfiltered with a total of 18 mg of sulfur.

Nose

The 2019s L'Odyssée Unveils a beguilingly pleasant and inviting aroma of black elderberries, sloes and a little cassis, blackberries and damsons combined with underbrush and forest floor just after a summer rain. Garrigue is at play here, something Syrah-like from aged entrecôte and a little matching pepper and allspice along with a ripe, sweet cherry note.

Palate

On the palate, the Syrah is silky and almost quaffable with its ripe and charming dark fruit and the polished tannin. The wine offers a lot of power and pressure on the palate. It's a very juicy, vibrant and fresh Syrah that simultaneously offers plenty of structure and a fine-grained texture. Above the dark, opulent fruit, there are hints of mint, rosemary, thyme and juniper.
