When the Vives family founded the bodega in 2004, their aim was to produce first-class wines. Particular attention was paid to combining the authenticity and terroir of the Priorat in the wines with an elegance that is usually found in Burgundy. Star oenologist Toni Coca has been supervising the project from the beginning. The own vineyards are cultivated organically, but first-class vines are also purchased from other vintners, since not all vines of the own parcels are old enough to meet the high standards.

The winery is located in the heart of Priorat in Gratallops. They pursue the most unadulterated transformation possible of the natural conditions in the form of wine.

2017 L'estaca is a single varietal Garnacha. It is aged in used French oak barrels.

Bright, dark cherry red, light rim

Nose

Its origin - the Catalan Priorat - is clearly revealed on the nose. It shows dark fruits like blackberry, black cherry and plum. A little cinnamon and juniper spice it up nicely. Thyme, lavender, but also parsley provide herbal-floral nuances. Graphite and wet stones provide darkness and a mystical impression. A little tyre rubbing and flint provide a feeling of warmth and well-being. But above all, liquorice and a little aniseed provide that special something.

On the nose, l'estaca directly underpins the strengths of Priorat. Powerful, fruity, intense red wines that live equally from a cool minerality and do not necessarily come from the tannin. The Garnacha is full and expansive. It lives from the intense fruit that it radiates. At the same time, it presents cool, stony notes. It shows itself fleshy as well as lush and yet is cut by the gripping acidity. From sip to sip, it becomes juicier and the bottle quickly comes to an end.
