Nose

The grapes for this wine come from 90-year-old Cariñena vines rooted at an altitude of 650 meters from the single vineyard Les Tosses. Dominik Huber knows how to make one of Spain's great wines out of this sometimes somewhat undervalued variety, and without any noticeable wood. That in itself is fascinating. But even more enchanting is the aroma of this wine, which is suspended between roots, wood, earth, truffle and stone, as well as the fresh yet deep fruit of raspberries, cherries and cassis, which is clouded by notes of violets, mint, garrigue and some tobacco.

Mouth

On the palate, the multi-dimensionality and grandeur of this wine is immediately apparent. The Cariñena shows an uncompromising amount of pressure and tannin, especially now that the wine is still bloody young, and yet, this is tremendous fun even now that there is still juicy dark primary fruit. Finally, the 2014 has Les Tosses over an almost adorable fine tannin and a freshness that branches out until the last second of the long finish. This is an inspiring wine and certainly one of the greats, perhaps the great Cariñena/Carignan of our time. As young as it is, it needs plenty of air and will be happy with a large decanter and burgundy glasses.
