Wine information
Les Charmes is a vineyard on the left bank of the Vienne on the hills of Anché, the neighbouring commune of Sazilly. The Cabernet Franc vines are 35 years old, the terroir is clayey and calcareous, and the vineyard faces north. The Cabernet Franc from Les Charmes receives a cool pre-fermentation for five days. The must ferments in wooden vats for around 15 days at temperatures of 24 °C to 26 °C. The pre-fermentation wine is blended with the best pressed wines. Malolactic fermentation and six to eight months of ageing take place in large wood.
Color
bright garnet red
Nose
The fragrance of the Les Charmes somewhat more discreet than the Les Petites Rochesbut deeper. Red currants, barberries and cranberries, a few cherries and red peppers, ripe tomatoes and tomato leaves show up here, slightly hidden.
Palate
Among the site wines Les Charmes always lives up to its reputation first. But the 2019 is still too young to be truly charming. But the potential for charm in two or three years is great, because the vintage is excellent. On the palate, the Cabernet Franc seems firm, the tannin is strong and ripe, but still needs to grind down a bit. The acidity is present. The wine glows from within, appears sensual even in the early stages despite the tannins, especially since the wood used with its spice is already showing itself to be well integrated.
