Wine information
Les Charmes is a vineyard on the left bank of the Vienne on the hills of Anché, the neighbouring commune of Sazilly. The Cabernet Franc vines are 35 years old, the terroir is clayey and calcareous, the vineyard faces north. The Cabernet Franc from Les Charmes receives a cool pre-fermentation for five days. The must ferments in wooden vats for around 15 days at temperatures of 24 °C to 26 °C. The pre-fermentation wine is blended with the best pressed wines. Malolactic fermentation and six to eight months of ageing take place in large wood.
Color
Bright garnet red with a hint of brick red at the rim
Nose
The Cabernet Franc impresses with lots of red berries including stalks, red peppers and piment d'Espelette, some musk and garden herbs.
Palate
The fact that this wine is supposed to have matured for six years is only noticeable in direct comparison with a 2019, where the tannins are more prominent. Otherwise, the 2016 is Les Charmes blood-young and earthy. On the palate, the tannins begin to melt. The wine appears juicy. Chinon and powerful. Some pyrazine can still be found in the red berry fruit and the notes of peppers and tomatoes. The acidity is impressively high, the tannin present and also the long finish exceedingly juicy. It has a lot of potential!
