Nose
The nose of the 2016 Clos de Bourg Moelleux 1èr Trie from Domaine Huet shows precise differentiation. While the Moelleux wines of the vintage are predominantly botrytis-free, the influence of noble rot is present here in a charming way. Honeycomb and beeswax form the spicy tip, followed by dried fruit such as dried pears and apple rings. Candied orange peel and candied lemon peel mingle with toasted salted nuts, Montelimar nougat and mild spice notes of anise, saffron and a leaf of light tobacco round out the epic nose.
Mouth
On the nose, with gripping phenolics, it combines the sweet fruit and viscosity with the ripe, polished tannins that give it its size and drinkability. A very upright wine, tightly curried, yet with a folksy approachability. Flavors of bergamot mirror the palate, acidity stretched wide with zesty vibration and accompanied by mild spice notes of allspice and clove into the epochal finish. Very, very sexy.
