Tasting note from from 12.05.2018, Copyright Peter Müller

In dark ruby red with a violet edge and black core, the wine appears clear and shiny in the glass.

Sourced from clay and loam soils, Philippe Gimel's Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cinsault cuvée is a purist documentation of the grapes. The dark berry characteristics of blueberry, plum jam and cranberry literally embrace the earthiness of bark mulch, black truffle, roasted chestnuts and autumn trumpets. The wine, which has not seen a wooden barrel from the inside and thus has not been aromatically influenced, shines precisely through this quality of purism.

On the palate, the 2015 L'Argile from Saint Jean du Barroux immediately reveals its power and range. Ripe and soft, yet grainy tannin clothes the mouth and creates space to linger. Moderate acidity merely sheds some light on the darkness of the berry fruit, allowing it to appear a bit brighter and fresher. It truly feels like eating the grapes in the vineyard with relish.

Food recommendations from Peter Müller

  • Grilled okra and baby corn with Mojo Rosso
  • Roasted saddle of hare with blueberry pepper jus, radicchio and pumpkin seed gnocchi
  • Baked black pudding pralines with apple sauerkraut and Schupfnudeln (potato noodles)
