Andrea Sottimano's 2020 Nebbiolo is characterised by its terroir and the altitude of the vineyards from which it is selectively harvested. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and selected again after arrival in the cellar. As with all of Sottimano's wines, alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously, and maceration on the skins is followed by malolactic fermentation before the wine is matured in barriques as well as larger casks.
Color
Strong ruby red with radiant reflexes.
Nose
The nose of the 2020 Nebbiolo from Az. Agr. Sottimano is varietally typical and enormously precise. It ranges from the universal cherry fruit with hints of Amarena to the distinctive fruit of Nebbiolo, always supported by fine tart notes and the unique balsamic spiciness of Piedmont, reminiscent of the shimmering asphalt on the horizon.
Mouth
Let's break it down to the everyday You can't drink Barbaresco every day. And you don't have to, as long as there are such highly refined Nebbiolos. They make life easier between the big bottles without making themselves small. At the same time, everything comes into the glass so casually and sturdily that it is a pure joy. The fruit is interwoven with animating tannin, coupled with the ripe, long-swinging acid arc. The whole thing is so nonchalant and casual that one is inclined to underestimate the potential of this "small" wine.
