Nose
Dark spicy and fragrant presents itself the 2016 La Pierre Noire. The high percentage of Grenache is obvious in the aroma, especially because of the clear note of licorice or even liquorice, which here meets the fruit of black cherries, blackberries, dried figs and dates, but also graphite, leather and a touch of black pepper.
Palate
Philippe Gimel manages amazingly well to give this powerhouse with a sweet fruit core and full, dark and juicy fruit a cool corset of precise acidity structure with stony hints. La Pierre Noire is an experience in its entirety of silky tannin structure, concentrated fruit and fine spice, which also oscillates on the palate between licorice, graphite, pepper, undergrowth and garrigue and is countered again and again by cool aspects. Especially the long finish is thrilling here and is particularly spectacular when the wine is caraffed and offered comparatively cool.
