Wine information

The vines of this Pinot Noir grow on the steep slopes of the winery on partly bare Jurassic limestone with a humus layer that is often only a few centimetres thick. The grapes are very small and the yields correspondingly low, which ensures concentration, complexity and a pronounced minerality. The wines of the winery are all fermented spontaneously and do not receive any other additions except for a light filling sulphur shortly before bottling. This Pinot Noir was only very coarsely filtered, if at all. It was fermented spontaneously and for a fortnight with a careful overflowing or underpushing of the mash cake. Some whole grapes were also fermented. The wine was aged in one third new and two thirds used barrels.

Color

Crimson with very slight cloudiness

Nose

The Isteiner Pinot Noir The nose is already juicy and cool, energetic and exciting. It reminds of sour cherries and red berries in combination with a little dry wood, some rose petals, almonds and undergrowth.

Palate

On the palate, the presence, the clarity, the acidity and the electrifying minerality of this Village, which actually already has the complexity of a 1er Cru, are inspiring. One can certainly draw comparisons with Burgundy here; after all, it is the same rock. Even if you are far to the south, this is a vineyard at 360 metres above sea level with cool nights. The restrained wood, the crisp red fruit and the elegant texture make this Pinot Noir - especially at this price - something very special in the local Pinot Noir landscape.
