Color
In bright shining golden yellow the wine shows itself clear and shining in the glass.
Nose
In all its charming minuteness, the first nose of the 2016 Kastanienbusch GG from Hans-Jörg Rebholz embodies Pfälzer Riesling through and through. Bright grapefruit and lime zest meet crisp fresh Granny Smith apple, as well as haunting yet not intrusive floral notes. Basil and lemon balm, as well as vervain and strawberry mint, form a subtle yet fragrant round dance and frame the radiant appearance.
Palate
On the palate, the Große Gewächs from the Kastanienbusch convinces with idiosyncrasy and gallantry. The 2016 Riesling is crystalline in its precision, polished and straightforward and yet does not seem made, but allowed. Juicy opulent fruit is bound by a taut gripping acidity in a provocative corset and pulls together with stony minerality patronizingly into the length.
Food recommendations from Peter Müller
- Tikka courgettes with chickpeas and pointed cabbage
- Edible crab and scallop with aloe vera, seaweed salad and lemon jelly
- Braised black feathered chicken with yellow coriander lentils and green asparagus
