Nose

The Slate Crystal Riesling is a dry Kabinett like something out of a picture book. Light as a feather and yet intense, the wine appears crystal clear and fresh with a clear note of freshly cut lemons, green apples and a crisp peach. The slate note is clearly perceptible, reminiscent of damp, freshly crushed stone.

Palate

The Slate crystal, who was formerly known as Cabinet but today forms the level of the VDP estate wine, flows just as crystal clear over the palate. The wine is fresh, punchy and lively on the palate. It is noticeable that it is stylistically very much in the tradition of von Buhl's Gutsrieslings, for which Mathieu Kauffmann was responsible. This wine was vinified bone dry and makes no compromises. This is still rather rare in this form on the Moselle, Saar and Ruwer. The acidity, a little rock salt and fresh lime and lemon slices ensure that light jolts of electricity meander across the tongue. The slate note locates the wine exactly where it originated.

Food recommendations by Christoph Raffelt

  • Ravioli filled with goat's cream cheese and chicory
  • Pickled mackerel with fresh garden herbs and fennel pollen
  • Cedrat lemon carpaccio with salt and olive oil
