The Karthäuserhof is a magical place and the monopollage Karthäuserhofberg is legendary. The sun heats up the south-facing slate slope during the day. But at night, the cold air from the surrounding Hundsrück heights flows in and cools it down again. The soil consists of very clay mineral-rich red slate. This constellation of soil and climate is unusual and makes for unique wines full of character with the potential for world fame. After Christoph Tyrell retired, his cousin Albert Behler took over the winery. After a certain period of reorientation, Mathieu Kauffmann, a big name in the wine industry, was hired as technical director. Already with his first vintage, he has set a clear, qualitative exclamation mark. He courageously focuses on organic viticulture and experiments with biodynamic practices. There are probably few places on the Mosel where these ideas can be implemented so well.
