The grapes for the Cuvée Kalk & Schiefer come from the municipality of Jois north of the Leithagebirge. They are harvested by hand from the vineyards on the eastern and western slopes of Lake Neusiedl, which are characterised by limestone and slate. The Grüner Velliner grows in vineyards that have been converted to organic viticulture, the Weißburgunder from vineyards that have already been cultivated biodynamically.
Color
Pale straw yellow with bright reflections and silky opacity.
Nose
The nose of the 2021 Kalk & Schiefer by Hans and Anita Nittnaus is clearly on the animatingly spicy side. Notes of herbal decoction, camomile tea, sage and wild herbs mingle with the essence of the fruits lemon oil, only the skin of the apple and a bunch of broom outline its appearance in the goblet.
Mouth
On the palate, Kalk & Schiefer shows its joyfully jovial side, puts its hand benevolently on your shoulder and lets you pour without a word. The cuvée of Grüner Veltliner and Pinot Blanc grabs you right at the first sip with its grippy feel and sinewy structure, which it whips across the thirsty palate at a rapid pace. Unpretentious, pure and absolutely animating.
