Nose
Il Templare from the sensational 2016 vintage, which caused a sensation in Italy, stands calm and very composed in the glass. The aromas are restrained but profound. Wet stones, a little gunpowder as well as walnut shells. Khaki, ripe mirabelle and pineapple provide discreet fruit. Dried apricot and peach are more intense, along with dates. Nutmeg and turmeric buzz in the background. Leaves and wood of redcurrant bushes as well as green walnuts and fresh almonds are serious flavours for advanced drinkers. A slightly smoky note coats it on the whole. An exciting first sip is in store.
Palate
It absolutely lives up to the expectations. It is full-bodied to punchy, but on the other hand it is directly marked by an enormous amount of stoniness and saltiness. Contrary to expectations, it appears cool and slender. A fine mineral component fills it with life and depth. Retronasal, it presents turmeric and other oriental nuances reminiscent of curry and tajin. Aromatically and haptically, an exciting wine that leaves room for intensely aromatic dishes.
