Color:
Intense ruby red with an opaque core and violet rim, the wine appears clear and bright in the glass.
Nose:
With a supposedly dark soul, but actually good heart, the fragrance of this marriage of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon from San Casciano in Tuscany presents itself. Black nuts meet a peppery compote of blackberries and cranberries with black olives, laurel and Szechuan pepper. Sounds suspicious at first, but it smells and tastes delicious.
Palate:
On the palate, the intensity and density of the 2016 Il Corzano by Corzano e Paterno continues masterfully. Dark, powerful and paying homage to the primal beauty of Tuscany, this wine shows no hints of the "modern" winemaking of the "new" old world. Rather, it sees itself deeply rooted in the timeless identity of this region and wipes the sweat from its brow, even today, with a cloth handkerchief with embroidered initials.
Lush, broad-shouldered tannin is piggybacked by straightforward, fresh fruit through the mouth, and the wine lingers with long-lasting herbal spice.
