Overview of the wine
Freyheit is an excellent example of a Red Traminer and comes from the same grape variety family as Savagnin and Gewürztraminer. The vineyard it comes from is rich in fossils and eroded mica schist in Kollern, Breitenbrunn. The grapes were harvested at the end of August and fermented spontaneously, followed by a 14-day maceration. Careful pressing with a basket press and six months of ageing in 600-litre cellar amphorae are part of the production process. To ensure full enjoyment of the wine, it is recommended to turn the bottle before opening and ideally to carafe the wine.
Color
The colour varies from a slightly dull orange, which tends to have slight copper reflections in the sun.
Fragrance profile
The Red Traminer Freyheit is characterised by a special individuality, with an aroma that unmistakably identifies it as a member of its grape variety family. On nosing, notes of lychee, rose petals, oranges and orange blossom, as well as mandarin oranges and aromatic hops unfold. There are also hints of candied ginger, Earl Grey and Szechuan pepper, making it both intriguing and unique.
Taste
On the palate, the Rote Traminer Freyheit offers a complex bouquet of fine bitter notes of grapefruit zest, floral aromas and both red and yellow fruits. Its phenolic texture is full-bodied and tactile, while at the same time possessing round and warm nuances, yet also invigorating and refreshing due to its acidity. Despite the sweet aroma, the wine contains only 1.2 grams of residual sugar, which makes it dry. The ageing in cellar amphorae gives it an additional dry texture. The finish suggests hints of hops, nutmeg and rose, as well as orange and ginger, ending in a salty and intense finish. A truly impressive individualist!
Food recommendations
This sophisticated wine is perfect served with an authentic Kung Pao chicken, creamy mushroom risotto with shiitake mushrooms and a goat cheese platter with crusty baguette.
