Nose-tickling aromas of orange zest and lemon verbena meet yellow apple, quince jelly and the delicate hint of the fruit opulence of a peach ice tea. The herbal spiciness of lemon balm and rocket and the slightly earthy fragrance of a fresh woodruff skilfully round off, while the multi-layered scent of a kombucha celebrates the balanced maturity of the wine.

Color

The wine shows itself in bright gold clear and shiny in the glass.

Nose

A straightforward and precisely polished Riesling presents itself suavely. Nose tickling aromas of orange zest and lemon verbena meet yellow apple, quince jelly and the delicate hint of the fruit opulence of a peach ice tea. The herbal spiciness of lemon balm and arugula and the slightly earthy fragrance of a fresh woodruff skilfully round off, while the multi-layered scent of a kombucha celebrates the balanced maturity of the wine.

Palate

A vibrant, tension-filled Riesling that has come to stay has found its center.

The balanced character of the 2013 Riesling from Fred Loimer's Zöbinger Heiligenstein is underlined by a lively acidity that is far from superficial. A small-part structure giving trace of phenolic give this Riesling wonderful length instead of breadth.

It also reveals slightly "tea-like" attributes on the palate and increases salivation many times over with its sparse minerality.

Food recommendations from Peter Müller

  • Roasted black salsify with kumquat butter, rocket and green pepper
  • Poached sea bass with lukewarm pumpkin-apple salad and herb gnocchi
  • Fried black pudding with zucchini cream, stewed cherry tomatoes and hash browns
