François de Nicolay is the name of the Négoce business under the management of the family-owned Domaine Chandon de Briailles in Savigny-Lès-Beaune. This means that only wines are produced and sold that do not come from the estate's own land. The grapes, musts or wines used for this come from certified organic or biodynamic vineyards or plants that are in conversion. Vinified in the cellar of Chandon et Briailles, the wines are marketed under their own label with their own label.
Color
Straw yellow, bright and clear.
Nose
With clear fruit and a calm nature, the 2018 En Champans Haute Côtes de Beaune from François de Nicolay is accommodating with a cool nature on the nose. Delicate wood spice and mild spices such as mace are supported by light tobacco, the fruit is outlined by yellow stone fruit and hints of citrus peel. Slightly salty notes provide the additional kick.
Mouth
On the nose, it is present and oscillates between a reduced fruit, juicy and extractive, yet reduced to the aromatic peach peel and the white of mandarin oranges are tartly outlined by contouring phenolic. Tightly meshed and dense, it acts not only aromatically but also haptically and gives the wine its pressure on the mid palate. Taut with medium body and good bass, it swings through the neighbourhood like a well-oiled lowrider.
