Wine information

The Spätburgunder comes from various vineyards on the Ahr, on average 15 years old, from Mayschoß to Bad Neuenahr and thus from loess and sandstone, greywacke and slate. The grapes were destemmed to 100 %, followed by cold maceration and spontaneous fermentation. Aging took place in used wood from Spessart oak in barrels from the Assmann cooperage. All grapes are harvested by hand, chaptalized is no longer since 2016 and a small portion of sulfur before filling is the only thing that is added.

Color

medium, quite transparent ruby red

Nose

On the nose the Craft Pinot Noir from the Ahr still reductive with smoky and flinty notes. Here we find a dark fruit, a meaty note and a hint of sweet yeast, which delicately encompasses the initially rather cool notes.

Palate

On the palate, this estate wine already very clearly shows Julia Bertram's motto of producing mineral, firm and elegant Pinot Noirs. The Craft Pinot Noir is present from the first moment with an irrepressible freshness and energy. The fruit features a mix of red and dark berries that seem as if their stalks have just been pressed into juice - even though the fruit is 100 % de-stemmed. In the background, there's cool stone, a hint of wood and, again, a hint of fruit sweetness in what should be bone-dry Pinot Noir. There are also subtly acidic notes here like those of pomegranate juice and grapefruit. The tension and the freshness that this wine offers provides a lot of drinking flow and leads to the fact that one takes the wine in large sips and is pleased with each further that Julia Bertram puts down such a performance at this price level.
