Info about the wine
The grapes grew on a lime-rich and heavy soil. The yield was deliberately kept low at 35 hl/ha.
Vinification info
After selective hand-harvesting in 20 kg boxes on 23 and 28 August 2018, a 12-hour maceration period took place. Fermentation took place spontaneously, in large used oak barrels and in steel tanks. For 10 months on full lees, after the 1st racking another 10 months in steel tank. In June 2020, the wine was bottled unfiltered.
Color
Slightly muted, light yellow with silver reflections.
Nose
The nose is already exciting, walnut, walnut skin, confit pear, orange and orange peel, accompanied by celery notes, fir branches and wormwood plant. With oxygen, which it tolerates and demands wonderfully, creamy and nutty components and a hint of white pepper open up to the taster.
Palate
On the tongue, the 2018 cuvée of Zierfandler and Rotgipfler from Fred Loimer shows great presence. The creamy notes combine with a wonderfully juicy fruit, ethereal hints and incisive spiciness. An exceedingly exciting wine that serves food and accompanies a wide range of dishes excellently in culinary terms.
