Wine information

This Muscadet from the Melon de Bourgogne variety comes from the La Butte de la Roche vineyard in the village of Le Loroux-Bottereau. The vines were planted in 1974. The soil is composed of the coarse crystalline peridotite as well as serpentinite - a metamorphic rock that developed from peridotite. Both rocks are of magmatic origin. This magma has formed La Butte de la Roche. The red-ochre soil is unique and famous in the Pays Nantais in this form. In the past, feudal lords owned a castle on the back of the hill.

The Muscadet comes from parcels belonging to the Cru Communal Goulaine. This cru has existed in the Nantais since the end of the 1990s. Goulaine is the name of the river that runs through the vineyards and flows into the Loire. From the viewpoint on La Butte de la Roche you have a view over the Goulaine marsh. The wine is named after it. Gula stands for Maw or Mouth, Ana means Gallic Swamp.

The grapes, harvested by hand, were pressed in a pneumatic press, the strength and duration of pressing being adapted to each vintage. This was followed by spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, then fermentation and ageing on the lees in underground glass-lined cement cuves and 600-litre barrels for 20 months.

Color

intense straw yellow with a light golden hue

Nose

This Muscadet almost shows the impression of a Anjou-Chenin blancso fine and at the same time luxuriant it seems. In the fragrance, notes of yellow apples, quinces, mirabelles and kumquats combine with a hint of lanolin, stone and a little honey. Although in the fruit quite expansive, the Gula Ana precise, clear, fresh and even tends to be cool in its stoniness.

Palate

On the palate, the wine becomes more powerful, but always remains transparent and juicy with a silky texture and juicy fruit. Here, too, a comparison to Chenin blanc suggests itself. The Muscadet appears unusually fruity, but always in a deep, complex and elegant way. Yellow pome fruit, stone fruit and yellow citrus fruits show up here as well. They are accompanied by candied ginger and by a trace of blond tobacco as well as liquorice, but above all by a lively, the Gula Ana pervasive acidity that goes hand in hand with deep minerality and cool stone, Atlantic saltiness and an only slightly hinted creaminess. So complex, so deep and long can Muscadet even at a young age.
