Info

Dominik Huber & Tatjana Peceric, Head Winemakers of Terroir al Limit and Terroir Sense Fronteres, are the dual leadership behind these wines. The duo has extended its portfolio of highly praised wines from the Priorat region by the neighboring Montsant region. The top cuvee of the new project is called Guix Vermell and comes from the Montalts vineyard in the direct neighborhood of Les Manyes. Just on the other side of the district. For both wine estates, the three levels of region, village, and grand cru apply, as we know it from Burgundy: bourgogne, village, and grand cru. The Premier Cru is omitted for the time being. In both projects, the aim is to bottle wines that are cool and full of finesse. At Bodega Terroir Sens Fronteres, this has been implemented by removing wooden vessels. Concrete and clay are used. At Terroir al Limit, they have moved from small wooden barrels to foudres over the last 15 years. This will be the next step here as well.

The Guix Vermell is made from the Garnacha Fina grape variety. This is considered to be the ultimate in the region around La Figuera. In the 2018 vintage, he has filled 1600 bottles of it.

Color

Dense, sparkling cherry red

Nose

The Guix Vermell appears absolutely dark and profound. At the same time, it doesn't even begin to convey a feeling of fullness or heaviness. And we all know that Garnacha can be the basis of the greatest calibers of Spanish red wines. It is suffused with darkness, coolness, elegance. Absolutely weightless, it floats in the glass. Hardly any change. An absolute manifesto. In the fashion industry, this timeless marvel would be called the "little black dress". Always fitting, never out of fashion.

It shows dark, almost black fruits like blackberry, cassis and black currants. Some tar, leather and liquorice underpin this colour scheme. Olives, rosemary and juniper contribute Mediterranean and ethereal elements. White pepper and an almost bloody nose almost make you think of Syrah from the northern Rhône.

Palate

It grips firmly on the palate. With proper pressure and a captivating but fine-grained tannin, it fills the mouth with the first small sip. The adjectives dark, cool and elegant are also absolutely applicable here. It almost silkily lines the palate. The Mediterranean spice comes through clearly. Meaty and juicy at the same time. It really whets the appetite for more. In the reverberation discreet roasted flavors and let the thoughts immediately wander to the new grill cookbook.
