Information about the wine
The Spitzer Graben site is one of the most extreme in the Wachau. The base alone is around 100 metres higher than most other sites, and the slope is steeply uphill, dry stone wall after dry stone wall. Untypically, the climate is hardly influenced by the Danube, and so even in summer it gets cool in the afternoon. The primary rock soils are poor and partly without any humus. The Grüner Veltliner is fermented spontaneously and aged on the fine lees in stainless steel.
Color
rich straw yellow
Nose
Juicy, fruity and creamy, this wine opens to the Late filling of the Grüner Veltliner sharpened trench, which combines the warmth of the 2019 vintage with a lot of freshness. White-fleshed pome and stone fruit play just as much a role here as citrus notes and herbs, as well as light vegetal notes of celery. Above all, however, it is the juiciness and creaminess that makes you want more here.
Palate
On the palate, this is a fascinatingly tobacco, herbaceous and creamy wine that combines its silky texture with a fine tannin. Besides tobacco, the Grüner Veltliner reminds of green hops, yellow pears, green juicy plums and salt lemons. Finally, a little extract sweetness becomes noticeable in the long finish. This is intense, complex and downright quaffable.
