Wine information
Connoisseurs know that the vineyard sites of the Wachau have much to offer, and the Spitzer Graben is one of the most impressive among them. Its foot is already around 100 metres higher than that of most other vineyards and from there it rises further into a steep landscape criss-crossed with dry stone walls. Despite the well-known Danube, the climate here remains idiosyncratic and surprises wine lovers by cooling down in the early afternoon. The primary rock soils, barren compared to conventional regions, form the perfect terroir for the Grüner Veltliner grown here, which undergoes natural maturation with a spontaneous fermentation and then unfolds in 850-litre wooden barrels.

Color
This wise wine reveals a subtly clouded yellow, interestingly interspersed with vivid green reflections.

Nose
The youthful Grüner Veltliner from 2020 initially appears somewhat reserved and benefits from decanting. With time, it unfolds a symphonic spectrum of aromas: they start with smoky notes, a hint of bacon and liquorice as well as nuances of walnut and aniseed. With increasing aeration, it unleashes its fruity tones, dominated by dried apricot, baked apple, kumquat and rosehip. A voyage of discovery with each intake of air, where aromas of nettle and chicory also come to the fore.

Palate
This white wine enters the scene with an onslaught of freshness, thanks to its refreshing acidity and lively minerality. Equally impressive is the tingling peppery note underpinned by malty hints, a yeasty density and a fabulous melt. This is a wine that particularly appreciates traditional, powerful and down-to-earth food and is loved for it.

Alternative food recommendations
Grilled pineapple with goat cheese and a salad of wild herbs would be an exquisite choice, as would a flavourful pasta alla carbonara or tender grilled lamb loin with roasted pearl onions and a rising star on the garnish list- parsnip puree. Its grand format makes it the personal choice for larger events, lavish occasions and all those with an unbridled passion for outstanding wines.
