Wine profile
A pure Grenache Rouge of noble origin, favoured by the parcel of Les Usclades, located at 350 metres above sea level in the Dentelles de Montmirail, this wine stands out. Instead of celestial influences, the Middle Triassic earth shapes the charisma of this wine. Like a hermit, the vineyard finds itself surrounded by woods and hedges. Harvested by hand on 7 September 2020, the grapes were three-quarters exposed and fermented in concrete cuves. The ageing process unfolded over eleven months in stainless steel barrels and extended into bottle ageing for nine months.
Visual impression
A subtle transparent ruby red that plays with a brightening edge.
Fragrant Portrait
Barefoot through a ripe forest of wild strawberries and raspberries, accompanied by warm notes of yeast and ripe plums - that's how the first impression of this 2019 Les Usclades feels. A quiet liquorice note and traces of raisin and rock add up to complexity.
Taste experience
A sensually enticing Grenache Rouge reveals itself on the palate with a full-bodied depth of warm, ripe red fruit and a grippy, almost melting tannin. The wine elegantly caresses the palate, filling the mouth with its charismatic play of warmth and fruit, rounding off the experience with delicate tannins and a sensual särezu.
Harmonising dishes
Slow-baked pork ribs with fennel salad are a tasty accompaniment, as is a Moroccan tajine with lamb and apricots. Alternatively, stuffed aubergines can be served, richly sprinkled with anchovies and various cheeses.
