Wine information

The Gimmeldingen Pinot Noir VDP. Ortswein comes from an older vineyard in the VDP. Erste Lage Kapellenberg. In a first pass, the grapes, which are precocious at this time, are harvested for the VDP. Estate Wine are harvested. In a second harvest, the grapes for this VDP. Ortswein, which has an even longer ripening period and can take advantage of the cool autumn climate to intensify the fruit without increasing the must weight and alcohol.

The vineyard is situated on a promontory slightly set back from the mountain. The subsoil consists of limestone rocks on which red sandstone from the Haardt Mountains has been deposited over many millions of years. Due to the distance from the Haardt Mountains, the vineyard has a very long exposure to sunlight.

Information on the expansion

The grapes are selectively harvested by hand at low yields averaging 40 hl/ha and gently transported as whole bunches to the press house. There, the stems are removed. The wine is then fermented on the skins in vats for 15-18 days. Unfined and untreated, the wine matures for 18-22 months in new and used barrique barrels.

Color

Covered garnet red with clear lightening towards the rim.

Nose

What a seducer this 2018 Spätburgunder VDP.Ortswein from Christmann is - fine cherry and berry aromas, especially wild raspberry, are complemented by subtle cedar notes, white pepper and a hint of graphite. With a little oxygen, herbal notes are added.

Palate

On the palate, it convinces with fine, sweetish fruit, a stimulating acidity and a fine-grained tannin structure. A very fine, multi-faceted red wine for uncomplicated wine enjoyment, which presents itself perfectly matured with a moderate alcohol of only 12.5 vol. %. Lightly chilled solo or with down-to-earth cuisine a pleasure!
