Wine information

The manor house Hildenbrandseck, located in the neighbourhood and formerly belonging to the Idig, gave the castle its name. The site adjoins the sea spider to the north. The gentle slope towards the east is slightly tilted to the north. The influence of the cold air from the Gimmeldingen valley is clearly weakened here, but still noticeable. The soil consists of a mixture of the limestone loess of the sea spider and red sandstone rubble. The vineyard was re-grafted to Pinot Noir in 2017. Two years later, the vines had enough time to grow together, resulting in beautiful Pinot Noir grapes. From the 2019 vintage, the Christmann winery presented a VDP.Erstes Gewächs for the first time.

Information on the expansion

Harvested 5 September 2019, selective hand harvest into small boxes, spontaneous fermentation with 20 % whole clusters, ageing in barrique, until February 2021, 20 % new wood, bottling in May 2021.

Color

Muted garnet red with delicate violet inclusions.

Nose

The 2019 Gimmeldinger Schlössel Spätburgunder VDP.Erste Lage is precise, cool and elegant with dark fruit reminiscent of sour cherries, sloe, cranberries, wild raspberries and some cassis. Wild mint, juniper, a hint of cinnamon and clove complete this beautiful bouquet in the finest way. This wine floats out of the glass, filigree and beguiling.

Palate

Precise and fresh, this masterpiece glides over the tongue, characterised by chalky notes, salty hints and a fine fruit sweetness that additionally underlines the feminine style. A very great seducer with silky tannin, which already provides great pleasure solo and which loves dishes with fruity and earthy influences.
