Out of stock

As a rule, there is a pre-harvest of the precocious grapes that are used in the VDP.Gutswein. Fantastic ageing potential and a Spätburgunder that whets the appetite for culinary accompaniment, which is further enhanced by the moderate alcohol of just 12.5 vol%.

Wine information

The VDP. Erste Lage Gimmeldinger Biengarten stretches over steep terraces and beautiful slopes along the Haardt Mountains between Gimmeldingen and Königsbach. It is well protected from cold winds by a slight hollow and is thus also used by beekeepers to this day, who can release their bees into the early spring here earlier than would otherwise be possible. This vineyard also received a top rating in the Kgl. Soil Evaluation of 1828 a top rating in Gimmeldingen. The soil of the Biengarten is predominantly characterised by red sandstone rubble. However, in the Bossigel parcel, the old white and Pinot Noir vineyard in the Biengarten on the border to Königsbach, the soil changes to the tertiary limestone marl of the Terra fusca.

Information on the expansion

As a rule, the early ripening grapes used in the VDP estate wine are pre-harvested. The harvest of the Gimmeldinger Biengarten VDP.Erste Lage then takes place in a further round, whereby the grapes are harvested at the optimal time under strict selection of only fully ripe, healthy berries. The yields here are usually only 35 hl/ha due to the over 40-year-old vines. The grapes, which are carefully transported to the wine press house as whole bunches, are only partially destemmed and then fermented in an open vat after a maceration period. The mash is carefully punched down by hand. Five to ten days after fermentation, the young wine is drawn off and then stored in barriques for one and a half years.

Color

Muted garnet red, violet at the core.

Nose

A concise and at the same time seductive fragrance emerges from the glass, sour cherries, blackberries, mulberries, violets and rose petals. Clearly underpinned by elder wood, sage, wild mint and pink peppercorns. Delicate toasted notes from the wood hint at it, but merely frame it wonderfully without dominating it.

Palate

On the palate, the 2018 Gimmeldinger Biengarten Spätburgunder VDP. Erste Lage, a silky, juicy seducer with a delicately salty note and a clear herbaceous character. Everything about this wine is fine and elegant, it virtually dances on the tongue and flirts with fine fruit sweetness. Fantastic ageing potential and a Pinot Noir that whets the appetite for culinary accompaniment, which is further enhanced by the moderate alcohol of just 12.5 vol%.
