Tasting note from from 10.03.2021, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

Les Treilles du Loup is the successor of the former Cuvée Théo and grown on 40-50 year old vines in the Kaysersberg valley between the Clos des Capucins and the village in a parcel called "Wolfreben". The soil consists of sandy silt and granite pebbles.

The grapes ripen comparatively early here, which leads to wines with complex aromas and good concentration. The hand harvest is followed by gentle pressing of the whole grapes in pneumatic presses, spontaneous fermentation with their own yeasts and subsequent maturation in large, old oak barrels for eight to ten months.

Nose

The 2019 Gewürztraminer Les Treilles du Loup from Domaine Weinbach shines on the nose with its select spectrum of fine citrus fruits Green mandarin, kumquat, blood oranges and citronate make the start and also depict the wine's tart facets with their aromatic bitters. Over that float aromas of white tea and fresh herbal notes of lemon balm and sorrel. The obligatory rose is more floral in this case, and even the lychee stays in the can this time. A clearly defined Gewürztraminer with rally stripes.

Mouth

With viscous feel it floods the palate in juicy opulence. Citrus aromas dominate the nose and go in the sweet direction of orange and clementine. Balanced by subtle spice of fennel pollen and pickled ginger, it thrives on its creamy feel and extremely juicy nature, fueled by a pinch of residual sugar that dresses it like a tailored pinstripe suit from Naples. The Johnny Controlletti among the Gewürztraminers.
