The majestic 2007 Gewurztraminer Hengst Sélection de Grains Nobles glows a radiant golden yellow. Its amber reflections are radiant and intense, filling the glass with warmth. Work your way slowly to unveil its charm, as it is initially reserved. Give it time and it gently unfolds a bouquet of exquisite notes that draw white nougat, honey and caramel, accentuated by a distinct, stony minerality. After it has opened, aromas such as apple compote, vineyard peach, quince and aniseed are discovered underpinned by clove and cinnamon scents.

On the palate, the noble drop reflects the seductive character of its nose. A lively acidity plays hand in hand with an earthy mineral flavour and a seductive honey sweetness. Its complexity is only beginning to reveal itself and will only show its full glory after some time. The recommendation would be to let this complex, noble sweet treasure mature patiently to give it the opportunity to fully play out its fascination.

For a harmonious evening accompaniment, this exquisite selection is recommended: A golden brown apple strudel, refined with vanilla beans and cinnamon, served with a splash of creamy whipped cream. For those who prefer something more dignified, a warm pear strudel with poppy seeds, rounded off with a delightfully light Gewürztraminer sabayone, would be an excellent choice. And for a hearty finish, a strong mature cheddar served with crusty baguette could make the culinary experience perfect.
