Color
The wine presents itself in radiant amber with a coppery core intense, clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
On the nose, this David Bowie of cultivated wine culture dances between umeboshi apricot and a pure pear cider. Distinct, yet always candied and caramelized citrus notes of lime zest and pink grapefruit meet a bracingly musty fermentation aroma and the promising scent of freshly baked yeast dough. A ripe, juicy pear is studded with rock candy, almonds and raisins to braise happily in the oven.
Palate
Not for people who want wine that tastes of nothing and has no life of its own.
Fermented on the skins and stems, the 2018 Gewürztraminer Ambre from Domaine Trapet is certainly not a meek fellow. Rather, it dances down the palate with its Doc Martin's to the theme song of Bowies' "Heroes". Initially fragrant and expressive of fruit, it transforms with an oily melt into a powerful, spicy and dryly resonant wine that is extremely multi-faceted and should not be enjoyed too cold. 14°C suits it well.
