Bodegas y Viñedos Attis is located in Val do Salnes. One of the sub-regions with the finest terroir in the Galician region of Rias Baixas. Genio y Figura is the entry-level Albariño, made from the younger vineyards. These vineyards are also pergola trained. A typical feature of the Rias Baixas region. 800 vines per hectare are planted. The subsoil is granite, with a high sand and low clay content. The philosophy of cultivation and ageing is also followed in this wine, but the maximum is worked out for an accessible and nonchalant Albariño. Cold maceration and a later relatively cool, spontaneous fermentation help this style immensely.


Bright golden yellow


The 2020 Genio y Figura absolutely fulfils all expectations of an uncomplicated Albariño from Galicia. From the best origins in the Val do Salnés, Attis shows here what drinking pleasure can be produced. The Atlantic homeland is clearly recognisable, but origin comes second. Fruit, varietal typicity, drinkability and again fruit are on the agenda. Did I mention fruit? A cornucopia of intensely fragrant aromas pours into the glass.

Cantaloupe melon, lychee, mango, grapefruit, green apples, lime and lemon are loud and clear. A little fresh garden herbs, oyster shell and sea spray provide fresh and lively accents. In the background, the yeast and the cool climate of north-western Spain have a delicate effect.


On the palate, it seamlessly follows on from these impressions. Cool, juicy, taut and with traction. The acidity pleasantly snaps across the tongue like a lasso. Just the right amount. The fruit is greenish and racy. Not at all kitschy, but well-placed and mature. The flow of saliva is promptly stimulated and the desire for a second sip sets in.
