Info
According to its name, this Gelber Muskateller comes from the sandy and slate soils of southern Styria. The vines are located in the best areas of the winery. The vines have an age of 5 to 40 years, so there is a good mix of different plants. In 2021, perfect grapes were brought in. The winery itself has very high expectations for the 2021 vintage. With slightly lower yields, the quality of the harvest is sensational.
The Muskateller fermented spontaneously and was then allowed to mature on the fine lees in steel tanks for 6-12 months.
Color
Bright pale greenish yellow with light reflections
Nose
The 2021 Gelber Muskateller Sand & Schiefer lives from a fine, filigree appearance with intense, but not striking fruit. Salt lemons, lime zest and a little kumquat start the wine off. Grapefruit also joins this variety of citrus fruits. Yellow and white flowers add gentle accents. Delicately, it also develops notes of papaya. Much more clearly, it is characterised by precision, clarity and herbs. Lemon balm, thyme, sage and mint. Viewed as a whole, it appears like an ice stream.
Palate
On the palate, it immediately manifests this clear, precise impression. The fruit is intense and clear on the palate, but seems very well-portioned, grown-up and serious - far from kitsch. Its cool appearance is clearly confirmed. It lives from a fine acid structure that drives it forward. Tements have equipped this wine with a punchy middle in the form of phenolic. This makes for a good mouthfeel and almost stimulates the jaw muscles. The citrus fruits paired with jasmine tea clearly characterise the finish. On the finish, it develops a subtle, salty tone that contrasts perfectly with the acidity. More of this, please!
