Nose
The 2019 Flores de Callejo initially comes across as a bit gruff, dark and concentrated. The Tempranillo comes through clearly, opening up a delight of dark fruits like morello cherry, cassis, blackberry and elderberry. The fruit comes across as positively tart and not jammy. Subconsciously, one revels in memories of creamy cherry candy. A cool nuance immediately brings to mind pencil lead and graphite. A little eucalyptus, coconut and mint seem exotic, but are placed in exactly the right place and discreetly in the background.
Palate
On the palate, it corresponds exactly to the expectations of the nose. The tannin seems a bit coarser grained and rustic. The dark fruit shows up punchy on the palate, but always punctuated by a fine acidity. Nevertheless, it shows itself dense and powerful. Cool and ethereal nuances give the Tinta del Pais, as the Tempranillo is called here, additional finesse and an uncomplicated character. The memories from the subconscious now clearly emerge and present a clear cream-cherry aroma in the finish.
