Nose
This is exactly how one imagines the strengths of such specialities. Instead of shining with fruit, 2019 "Fiore" Vernaccia di San Gimignano by Montenidoli shines with nutty aromas, spice and depth. Roasted Piedmont hazelnuts and pine nuts are dominant and loud. Roasted almonds can also be detected, as well as chestnuts. With time and oxygen in the glass, aromas of dried herbs emerge. Oregano, marjoram and thyme are present. A touch of fresh basil and mint add ethereal components and lightness to the herbal spice. Dried fruit as well as fresh apricots and mirabelles provide a delicate fruity note in the background.
Palate
On the palate, it is very balanced. The surprisingly good and clear acidity structure is positive. This is very conducive to the emerging minerality. It seems cool, precise and crystal clear. It literally makes your mouth water. Very animating. Aromas of lemon zest enhance the fresh, cool elements in the wine. The nutty aromas become much more restrained and are only faintly perceptible in the finish. It builds up pleasant pressure on the palate. Above all, yellow fruits now dominate the aroma picture, along with citrus fruits. Elegant and clear in its appearance.
