Wine information

The 2020 Finca de Los Locos comes from the 2.8-hectare Paraje Peñascalera vineyard not far from the village of Baños de Ebro, where the Miguel Blanco family planted a terrace in 1981 at 120 metres above the height of the river. The vineyard was planted as a mixed set with about 78 % Tempranillo, 20 % Graciano and 2 % Viura, whose grapes were harvested and fermented together. The soil is mainly sandy with gravel, lots of chalk and limestone. De-stemmed grapes were used, which were fermented spontaneously. The wine then matured for a year in 3,500-litre barrels and was bottled unfiltered. Among Artuke's site wines, it is considered a premier cru guided.

Nose

The 2020s Finca de Los Locos is an expressive Rioja, which congenially combines fruit, spice and coolness. It reminds of chervil, undergrowth and moss, blackberries, cherries and plums, some clove, cinnamon and liquorice with a hint of cassis and chocolate.

Palate

On the palate, the Finca de Los Locos between structure and finesse, juicy dark fruit and a cool pressing acidity that is clean as a bell and bright. On the front palate, there are lots of blackberries and blueberries. The tannin seems very fine and is expertly integrated, almost chalky with a hint of coolness. All in all, this is a very well-balanced, noble and mineral-toned wine with a fine salinity on the long finish.
